Editing our production

Editing our production was far more difficult than i expected it to be as i was using an unfamiliar software (final cut pro x) which took a very long time to be able to use it to a standard where it would be effective for our film. i used youtube tutorials to be able to quickly get a feel for the new software. once had some experience using the software it was a far better quality than the software provided by the school would restrict us to.

The software used is highly advanced and is used often by professional movie makers. This software is designed to make editing as quick as possible. The quick key ability to select tools i found very useful as this sped up the process by instantly selecting a tool instead of going through a tool bar and individually selecting the tool. And certain keys trigger a different tool. For example, ‘A’ was used to select the general cursor tool to select other options in the software. ‘B’ is used to select the blade tool used for cutting clips down and splitting takes for more manageable use. And ‘R’ which was used for the range tool to select areas of clips in the work area.

The software allowed me to access every frame to do pinpoint amendments and this made cutting takes far easier to know exactly where one shot stars and another ends. The space available in the work area allowed for multiple layering in sound effects and the soundtrack which was extremely helpful with transitioning between shots and sound
